At LAST!

It's done, IC #2, and this is where we part ways. I love #2 more than #1, and I'm glad to have her, but ... a year in the making? Even whole BABIES don't take a whole year! And they're complete human beings! I knitted a darn skirt!

The Elsbeth Lavold Silky Wool in black was a mistake I won't be repeating, because though the end result is pleasing, the time spent knitting that stringy, thin, dull yarn was nearly, must I say it? Intolerable!

Finally posting pictures!

So here are some relatively unflattering pictures of me in my IC when I finally got to wear it for a summer wedding. (Have you ever bought a dress top in summer? There was nothing that wasn't sheer at the dept. stores.) Anyways, I think it looks really good on me when I'm not being blasted by a flash. I got quite a few compliments, and when people found out I made it, they thought it was even cooler. I think if i ever went out with it at night, I'd switch to black ribbon though.

Its done!

After 6 months of working on my IC on and off, I finally finished last Sunday! I don't have any pictures yet because it is waiting to go to work with my mom (she works for a dry cleaners and is going to clean off the cat dander and steam block it). I'm really happy with how it turned out, except for the fact that I am really bad at crochet and the loops in the back don't really line up exactly. I think everyone will be too distracted to notice that though, lol!
Pictures soon!

Well, after the strangest blogger antics I've seen in awhile, I'm finally a member of this KAL! My name is Meg and I've been knitting for 13 years. I'm looking forward to starting Cruelty but I have to finish a pair of socks and a pair of gloves first. Both of those are soo close to being done but still need the niggling little bits of finishing.
I look forward to seeing how this comes along!

New Cruel Chick!

Hiya, all! I just joined the knitalong and I have a couple moments to spare, so I'm pseudo-introducing myself. ;D I'm doing the Intolerable Cruelty skirt for part of my "costume" for my Significant Other's annual Christmas party ... a.k.a. Pimps and Ho Ho Hos. ;) The party is next Friday, so we'll see if I manage to get it done by then -- ha! It'll be a superfast knitalong for me. I'm bending a bunch of guidelines and living on the wild side with this skirt, actually: using a yarn with silk content (only 20%, and the other 80% is half wool and half acrylic, but still), knitting with a slightly lighter weight yarn ... but hey. At least I did do a gauge swatch or seven.

Right now I'm eleven rows in ... woo. I know. I'm so far. ;) Still, I did just cast on last night, and I'm in the middle of spinning something for a swap, too. I'm hoping I'll have more time to sit and knit this weekend, since I'll be away from home on the crew for a cannon demonstration at a pirate fair, and we only have two demonstrations per day, plus the show itself opens at, like, eleven a.m. and closes at five, or something like that. Short show + only a couple of demos = lots of down time ... hopefully. I'm crossing my fingers.

Wish me luck? ;)

Am I the only one...

who's lost her mind over the Cruelty? I'm on #2, knowing full well what season it is...I can't help it.
I even swatched, and my swatch was dead-on for the first time in my history, but now that I'm 1/3 through, I'm missing 5 stitches per four inches. That's a LOT!!! HOLEE COW that's a lot. So I put it on two circs so I could try it on- not horrible, but I get the willies every time I have to increase. The Silky Wool isn't quite as forgiving as the Lamb's Pride. How did that happen? I should have known- my gauge is never dead-on. Never.

I know you are all knitting Christmas gifts, as I should be, but...anyone else involved in self-inflicted cruetly?

Wearable Cruelty!

Ta Da!
Well, Thanks, girls, the blocking helped, enough for me to let it go and think about the next one I'll be making! Here's what I did!
A little blocking goes a long way!

I think I'll take her out for a spin- Khan has given it the seal of approval - he's already tried to decompose it!
Off to the yarn store for something in...black! Laetitia's beautiful version has inspired me. And does anyone else think the Equestrian Jacket by Kate Gilbert in the lastest IK is not to die for? And wouldn't it look so cute with the skirt? Maybe? With a long waisted blouse? Maybe? I don't think I have a picture without a dog's snout or tail in it. He's such a camera hog! I should confess: I did NOT switch to bigger needles for the frill as the pattern says. Probably one reason why it curled so much and wasn't as long or drapey. Also, I think it would be more elegant if I had used a thinner yarn and smaller needles. My gauge is enormous to begin with, and I had to fritter with the math to get the back panel symmetric, etc. So I've got a relatively thick wool and a big gauge. More stitches per inch. But really, the more I'm wearing it, the happier I am. When I sit on the frill it flattens out even more! But don't be fooled: wool or no wool, a skirt in November in Michigan is just a baaaaad idea! Brr! I can't wait to see others! I have to admit- this is one of a very few projects other than shawls and hats that I've finished and could wear. I'm thrilled! I highly recommend it for you folks on the fence- really wasn't complicated or time consuming. Great pattern!
